The Puch G320 is the Austrian-market version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (W463). It is essentially the same vehicle as the Mercedes G320, but with different badging due to a partnership between Daimler-Benz and Steyr-Daimler-Puch. Under the agreement, G-Wagons sold in Austria, Switzerland, and select Eastern European markets were badged as Puch, while the rest of the world received them as Mercedes-Benz. A Notable way to tell is the Shift Knob does not have the Mercedes Star, it boasts a "G". For collectors and enthusiasts, 1998 is often considered a "sweet spot" in G-Wagon history for several reasons: The 722.6 Transmission: By 1998, the 5-speed automatic was standard. This transmission is much smoother and more reliable for highway cruising than the older 4-speeds found in early 90s models. W463 Luxury: The interior by this year featured the updated dashboard with better ergonomics, more wood trim, and improved climate control, making it feel less like a tractor and more like a premium SUV.
Modern Safety: Dual airbags and ABS were standard by this point, providing a safety net that the earlier 460/461 series lacked. This G Wagon was imported into the United States in 2001 with only 90 miles on it. It spent its first 6 years in Indiana. It relocated in 2007 to Washington State, where it lived until it moved to Oregon in 2011. We sold it for a customer in 2012 who just returned it because they are not driving it anymore.
